Agricultural Research Specialist

Job Description (Fully Remotely):

As an Agricultural Research Specialist, you will be at the forefront of advancing climate-smart management practices and sound science to improve the health and productivity of agricultural lands in North Dakota. Your work will involve conducting research, implementing projects, and collaborating with stakeholders to address key challenges in agriculture and natural resource management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to identify and promote climate-smart management practices for agricultural lands.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement watershed restoration and conservation initiatives aimed at ensuring clean and abundant water resources.
  • Investigate methods to increase carbon sequestration, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote low-carbon energy solutions in agriculture.
  • Foster agricultural innovation by testing and promoting new techniques, technologies, and practices.
  • Provide assistance and support to increase food security and access to nutritious and affordable food for communities in North Dakota.
  • Promote a culture of civil rights, diversity, equity, inclusion, transparency, and accountability within all aspects of agricultural research and conservation efforts.
  • Build technical capacity among NRCS and partner field conservation employees.
  • Support local partners in developing and implementing effective conservation projects.
  • Leverage non-Federal and non-government resources to maximize conservation outcomes.
  • Support and promote urban agriculture and small-scale farming opportunities through technical and financial assistance programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in agriculture, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Strong background in agricultural research, conservation practices, and project management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of North Dakota’s agricultural landscape and conservation challenges is preferred.
